Children’s Day Celebration 2018

Children's Day Celebration 2018 at Mauryan High

In India, Children’s Day is celebrated each year on November 14th, as a tribute to the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly called ‘Chacha Nehru’, was born on this day in 1889. He was known for his love for children, which is why his birthday is celebrated each year as Children’s Day. At Mauryan High, celebrations began in the morning assembly. The theme was “Masti Ki Pathshala”, that is, the idea was to make the children have plenty of fun. Teachers planned for this creatively. For instance, they performed a short comedy skit, where they played the role of students in a classroom lesson. Students found it hilarious to see grown-ups act like kids. Meanwhile, teachers in the pre-primary wing felicitated their students with handmade thank-you notes. The celebrations ended with a motivational speech by the principal and play-time for younger students in the playground.

Diwali Celebration 2018

Diwali Celebration 2018 at Mauryan High

Diwali is the festival of lights. It symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. At Mauryan High School, celebrations started with a fire-less cooking competition. Students of Grade 3-9 made several delicious dishes like sandwiches, salads, canapes etc. These were later enjoyed by both students and teachers. To make this day feel festive, students wore colourful clothes instead of their every-day uniforms. Rangolis and diyas capture the essence of Diwali. Classes 1, 2, and 3 decorated diyas while students of grade 4 and above made rangolis. These activities are a good way for children to express their creativity. They also teach them about Indian culture and traditions. For children, firecrackers are a big part of this festival. In order to suit their fancy, the school provided sparklers and small crackers for students to light up. However, teachers supervised them to ensure their safety.

Extempore is one such method which assists the students, not only in thinking on their own, but also in voicing their creative ideas with precision. Students of Mauryan High picked up chits with topics to speak on. The topics in the competition included current issues, spoken English, Science, Social studies and Computers. Class teachers were in charge of their respective classes. The judgement was based on the content: relevance to the topic, confidence, clarity of speech, time management etc. This activity intended to give an opportunity to build their self-confidence.
